Shane - en grisaille

oil on masonite, 11" x 14"
A painting considered to be complete at this point
is unusual but not at all unique. Wonderful
examples by Ingres, Mantegna, Tiepolo, Degas,
and Close exist. Historically, this stage would
be considered preliminary, and would dictate the
tonality for subsequent layers of translucent
color.
